Unfortunately, the workshops of Djembé-Dramé have really stopped now. A group of enthusiastic students has chosen for a week at Schier with a 5 day Balafon workshop. (photo last year)

Building a balafon at the 'Byggefest' (Building Festival) in Denmark
|
|
During the Byggefest, everyone can work with wood to their heart's content. Whatever you want to make! There is plenty of wood, tools that you can use and people who know about wood who are willing to help you. In addition, there will be performances in the evening. A small-scale festival in the eco-village 'Grobund'. Swimming and camping on the beach, campfires and a wonderful atmosphere.

I am going to build a balafon there with people who want to help me with the whole project or part of it. If interested, people can make their own balafon(frame). Languages: Danish and English. Feel free to check out the atmosphere or sign up at byggefest.dk, but also send me a message.

My teacher and friend Youssouf Keita from Burkina is coming to the Netherlands!

|
|
|
The 'Kirina' show was cut short by the pandemic at the time, but is now getting back on track. Youssouf will play in Luxembourg. Then he will come to the Netherlands until 11 June to meet his balafon friends there. I will organise a balafon meeting on the 6th of June.

Sinds een paar jaar heb ik contact met Berna Haverkort, een bespeelster van de Ghanese Xylofoon, een balafoon, die lokaal in Ghana ook bekend is onder de naam 'Gyll'. Met haar heb ik samen gewerkt om het Ghanese muziekstuk Ganda Yina op papier en op deze website te krijgen. Zij had dit persoonlijk geleerd van SK Karakra Lobi in Ghana. …

Eerste oogst in Konsankuy

Van Youssouf kreeg ik een filmpje van de eerste oogst in Konsankuy, Malli. Hij maakte het tijdens zijn recent verblijf daar (september / oktober 2021).
